Swimming Hosts North Carolina Saturday

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU swimming and diving team welcomes North Carolina to the TCU Recreation Center Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12 p.m. It marks the first full team meet of the 2013-14 season for the Horned Frogs.
The TCU women enter the meet fresh off a season-opening victory against Big 12 foe Kansas on Thursday. The Horned Frogs defeated the Jayhawks, 176-124, capturing 11 event titles. Sophomore Mikayla Winkler was the top finisher in the pool, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.99) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.79) while classmate Kristen Connolly swept the diving events with a pair of 8.00 in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions.
The meet will mark the season opener for the Horned Frog men, who finished second overall at the Big 12 Championships in 2012-13. The men return 14 swimmers and two divers from last season while adding six newcomers. Junior Cooper Robinson – the reigning Big 12 backstroke champion who also earned all-conference honors in the 100-yard back and 200-yard individual medley is among the returners along with sophomore Adam Szilagyi who set the school record in the 100-yard backstroke last season. Senior Luiz Azarias rounds out the returning school record holders for the men, having set the TCU standard in the 200-yard butterfly last season. The men also return junior divers Curtis Muller and Ricky Bradley – both of whom earned All-Big 12 honors last season.
North Carolina women opened the 2013-14 season with a 4-0 start, defeating Virginia Tech, Radford, Liberty and James Madison at the Virginia Tech Invitational. They fell, 129-171, in dual meet action at Texas on Thursday and are slated to compete in the SMU Classic on Friday.
The UNC men went 1-1 at the Virginia Tech Invitational, falling to Virginia Tech but defeating VMI. They lost to Texas, 126.5-171.5 in dual meet action on Thursday.
