Nov. 12, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU men’s swimming and diving team hosts SMU on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in dual meet action. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. in the TCU Recreation Center Natatorium.
The Horned Frog men are 0-1 on the season after falling to North Carolina, 109-188, in dual meet action on Oct. 19. Sophomore Adam Szilagyi picked up the first event title of the season for TCU against the Tarheels, winning the 100-yard backstroke (48.90) while reigning Big 12 200-yard backstroke champion continued his dominance in the event with a 1:46.19 first-place finish.
A trio of Horned Frogs – senior Ryan Wilcox, sophomore Corey Nix and freshman Garrett Hills – represented TCU at the Fastest Man in Texas Shootout in San Antonio last Saturday. All three swam two 50-yard freestyles recording personal-bests. Wilcox had a 21.26, Nix posted a 21.12 and Hills touched the wall at 21.31. Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian won the meet with a 18.79.
The last meeting between the cross-town rivals–on Nov. 7, 2012 at Perkins Natatorium–was one of the most competitive dual meets in TCU history. Down, 124-140 headed into the final two events, TCU’s Harrison Bui (1:55.48), Luiz Azarias (1:55.84) and Cooper Robinson (1:55.89) swept the top three spots in the 200 IM to pull the Horned Frogs within four, 140-144. SMU sealed the win in the final event, with its top 400 freestyle relay touching the wall 0.86 seconds before the Horned Frogs top team.
Wednesday’s competition marks the 2013-14 season opener for the Mustangs, who return two All-Americans, nine All-Conference USA selections and 23 letter winners from last season.
Following Wednesday’s meet, the TCU men and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the three-day Aggie Invitational beginning on Nov. 21.
