FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Swimming and Diving head coach Richard Sybesma announced the signing of four swimmers on Tuesday (Nov. 20). Maria Alvarez (Cali, Colombia) will join the team next semester, while Jack Doran (Spring, Texas), Megan Higginbotham (Cumming, Ga.) and Kaitlyn Vann (Cumming, Ga.) will join the Horned Frogs for the 2008-09 season.

"This is a really strong class that we have brought in so far," said TCU head coach Richard Sybesma. "We really feel good about the quality of these swimmers."

Alvarez, from Cali, Colombia, will join the Horned Frogs in January prior to the start of the upcoming spring season. Alvarez will swim the mid-distance freestyle events for TCU.

"We feel that Maria is really going to surprise a lot of people next year," said Sybesma.

Doran, from Spring, Texas, earned five All-America selections during his junior year at Klein Collins High School. Doran garnered individual accolades in the 50-free (20.94) and 100-back (50.90), as well as earning honors in the 200-medley, 200-free and 400-free relay events. Doran teamed up with current TCU freshman Dan Bodin in the 200-free and 400-free relays.

"Jack will be a kid that will have an immediate impact on our program," explained Sybesma. "He finished third at the state meet in the 100-back last season behind two excellent swimmers, so we're excited about what he can do."

Megan Higginbotham and Kaitlyn Vann come to TCU from Chattahoochee High School in Cumming, Ga. Higginbotham, a breaststroke and individual medley swimmer, earned All-America honors her sophomore year in the 100-breast event (1:05.64). Vann, a freestyle and butterfly swimmer, was named a Scholastic All-American for the 2006-07 season.

"Megan will really help us with the relays," Sybesma said. "We're also looking to improve the breaststroke events, and she will be a difference maker there as well.

"Kaitlyn can swim anything from the 50-free to the mile. We're really excited about the versatility she will provide."
