Hesselberg named MWC Men's Diver of the Week
Nov. 22, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - R.J. Hesselberg, a sophomore diver on the TCU swimming and diving team, was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Diver of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. The selection is the fifth consecutive weekly award for Hesselberg.
Hesselberg won the three-meter diving event and placed second in the one-meter to help lead the men in a near upset of last year's MWC champion, UNLV. In the three-meter, Hesselberg took the top spot with a score of 347.10, just shy of a personal-best score of 347.33 set two weeks ago against Air Force. Hesselberg earned a score of 263.62 in the one-meter to place second behind TCU freshman Kyle Callens.
Hesselberg has won five straight weekly conference awards this season and has now earned the honor nine times in his career at TCU. Hesselberg set a MWC record last week with his fourth consecutive selection, and now only trails Utah's Sterling Richards' six awards in a season.
The TCU men's divers will compete at the UT Invite in Austin, Texas, beginning on Nov. 29.
