Carter and Gettel Tabbed for TCU Weekly Award

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Athletics Department selected Emily Carter and Jeff Gettel as its Student-Athletes of the Week for their efforts this past weekend for the Horned Frogs.

Carter led three Lady Frogs in double figures with 24 points Sunday, as TCU defeated Sam Houston State 83-65 at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Bossier City, La., native tied her career high in scoring for the second time in three games, as she also led the Frogs to an 84-66 road victory at SMU Dec. 9 with 24 points. The 6-1 lefthander had a career-best nine field goals on only 15 attempts, while she also went 5-of-7 at the free-throw line. Carter set the tone early, as she led the Frogs in the first half with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while adding a 4-for-5 effort at the charity stripe.

The TCU swimming teams spent the weekend at the 18th Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am in Oklahoma City, Okla. Gettel led off the Horned Frogs’ 400-medley relay squad that claimed first place honors with a finals time of 3:24.84. The Plano, Texas product also earned fourth place accolades in the 200-back (1:50.79), while also being tabbed for eighth place recognition in the 100-back (51.31).

Previous December recipients of the TCU Student-Athlete of the Week award include swimming's Josh Bagby and women's basketball's TK LaFleur (Dec. 8), followed by men’s basketball’s Zvonko Buljan and Carter last week.
