Houston - The TCU women's 4x400 meter relay unit broke the school record and logged an NCAA provisional mark, highlighting the Flyin' Frogs fortunes at the Leonard Hilton Memorial meet on Friday at the Yeoman Field House inside the Athletics/Alumni Center on the University of Houston campus.

The TCU women's quartet of Larissa Bakasa, Donita Harmon, Deborah Jones and Marquita Davis posted a winning time of 3:41.00, easily breaking the school record of 3:43.79, set by Bakasa, Heather Hanchak, Tarieka Paige and Perhona Tomlin on February 10, 2001 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It also bettered the NCAA provisional standard of 3:41.20.

All-American half-miler Jackson Langat logged an NCAA provisional mark in winning the 800 meters on the men's side. He completed the distance in 1:50.11, ahead of the NCAA standard of 1:50.80. Langat, who placed sixth at both the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships a year ago at 800 meters, completed a gold medal double by winning the mile run in 4:14.37.

Other TCU competitors who brought home gold medals were Brett Wilson in the 400 meter dash (48.82), Mary Kinyanjui in the mile run (5:01.58), Katrina Zielinski in the 5000 (17:27.94) and the women's distance medley relay team of Heather Isbell, Julie Curtis, Justina Malone and Kinyanjui. The quartet completed the race in 12:18.92. Wilson led a strong TCU contingent in the quartermile, as Horned Frog runners placed first, second, third and fourth in the event.

"Overall it was a much better performance than the first meet," said TCU head coach Monte Stratton. "We worked out some kinks and we looked like we're getting back into racing form. This was a little bit of a dress rehearsal for the conference meet. We ran well here today and we have run well here in the past, so we're looking forward to the conference championships, which will be held here at the end of February."

Among the schools competing in the meet were Rice, Houston, Texas, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, UT-Arlington, Texas A&M, Miami, Army, Mississippi College and Stephen F. Austin.

The Frogs will be back in action on Saturday, February 7 when they return to Houston to take part in the Southwest Classic.
