Moore Sets New School Record
Feb. 1, 2014
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- TCU hurdler Jordan Moore broke a 14-year-old school record in preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles at the New Mexico Team Invitational Saturday, and later in the meet, he broke his own record in placing second overall with a time of 7.72 seconds.
The time, TCU track coach Darryl Anderson said, puts Moore in the Top 10 nationally, essentially solidifying a spot at nationals.
"That will definitely get him in (the NCAAs)," Anderson said. "The one thing he does well is compete. He goes to the line expecting to be successful. To do what he did today bodes well for his future."
Prior to Saturday, LaTarence Dunbar held the school record at 7.88 before Moore posted the time of 7.83 in his first race of the day.
Moore finished just three one-hundredths of a second behind Nebraska's Oladapo Akimoladun in the finals.
"What stands out (about Raymond) is he beat one of the national leaders," Anderson said. "He'll have one of the top times in the country. We've been waiting and waiting for this breakthrough and he finally had it."
Megan Smith also placed first in the shot put for the Frogs with a throw of 52-09.25, which she recorded on her first throw of the day.
"We're happy about her and know her future is bright," Anderson said.
In the women's long jump, Lorraine Ugen recorded a second-place finish with a mark of 21-00.75, putting her in a good position to make the national meet, Anderson said.
"All three did a real good job and we're happy about that," Anderson said. "In the next few weeks they're going to bring their times down."
In other notable performances: Tricia Terry finished third in the women's mile; Justin Chambers (1:20.75) placed fourth in the 600 meters; and Cameron Echols-Luper (21.24) placed fourth in the 200 meters with a personal record.
TCU is back in action Feb. 7-8 at the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas.
