Frogs Log Seven NCAA Provisional Marks Saturday
Feb. 8, 2003
The TCU Flyin' Frogs posted seven provisional NCAA marks, five on the men's side and two on the women's ledger, at the Air Force Classic held Saturday. Both TCU squads placed fourth in the quadrangular meet at the Cadet Fieldhouse on the United States Air Force Academy campus. Colorado State won both the men's and women's titles, finishing ahead of Colorado, Air Force and TCU.
"We ran very well from the 800 meters on down on the men's side and from the 400 meters on down on the women's side," said TCU head coach Monte Stratton. "As expected, we were dominant in the sprint events. It was a good meet for our sprinters and takes us one step closer to the conference and national meets."
On the men's side, the Frogs gained NCAA provisional marks from Jermaine Joseph (21.15) in the 200, Jerry Harris (46.43) and Brandon Simpson (47.04) in the 400, Jackson Langat (1:48.85) in the 800 and Brandal Lawrence (15.68m) in the triple jump. The Frogs captured the top three places in the 60, 200 and 400 meter dashes, and had first place finishes from Langat in the 800, Reggie Harrell in the 60-meter high hurdles, the mile relay team, Cleavon Dillon in the long jump and Lawrence in the triple jump.
The TCU women boasted NCAA provisional times from senior Monica Twum (7.37) in the 60 meter dash and freshman Donita Harmon (23.57) in the 200. In addition to their victories, the Frogs also picked up gold medal performances from Julie Curtis in the 60-meter hurdles (8.86), Larissa Bakasa in the 400 (55.70) and the mile relay team (3:53.64).
The Flyin' Frogs are in action again next Friday, February 14, when they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Razorback Invitational. That is also the site of the 2003 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held March 14-15.
