TCU Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season
March 26, 2005
Waco, Texas - The TCU Flyin' Frogs men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2005 outdoor season at the Dr Pepper Invitational, held at the Hart Patterson Track & Field Complex on the Baylor University campus Saturday.
"We won a lot of events today," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "After having a full month to just focus on our training, we are a better team than we were during the indoor season. We can walk away from this meet feeling good about ourselves. Bradley Reed's performance in winning the 100 in 10.32 seconds stood out," said Anderson. "Kip Kangogo didn't have much competition but ran controlled in winning the 1500 and Jacob Hernandez and Jackson Langat both won their heats in the 800 meters by a country mile. The men's 4x100 meter relay team won in 40.65 seconds," continued Anderson. "The time is not that great, but it was rainy, windy and cold, so I was pleased with that time. They looked like a "TCU" relay team."
"That was Joe Brown's first collegiate event," noted Anderson. "To throw that distance at 9 in the morning and in the rain was impressive. Cleavon got off to a great start in the long jump by going nearly 25 feet. He only took two jumps because of the cold and the rain. I was also pleased with Zelma Wade throwing 143 feet in the discus. Coach (John) Kenneson has done a great job with her," noted Anderson.
Other teams that competed included Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tarleton State, North Texas, Northwood, Angelo State, Abilene Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce, Wayland Baptist, Texas-Arlington and Mount Mercy, along with the homestanding Baylor Bears.
The Flyin' Frogs return to action next Saturday when they take part in the UTA Invitational at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
