Flyin' Frogs Shine at Texas Relays

The TCU track & field team had a solid performance in Friday's portion of the 75th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. The Frogs' got NCAA outdoor provisional marks from Cleavon Dillon in the long jump and from the women's 4x100-meter relay team, highlighting the day's events.
"It was a good, solid day for us today," said TCU head coach Monte Stratton. "We don't have a whole lot of athletes competing here this weekend, but those who are here have done a nice job. We hope to finish up strong on Saturday" added Stratton.
Freshman Cleavon Dillon, making his first appearance of the outdoor season after registering a fourth-place finish in the long jump at the national indoor meet in March, recorded an NCAA provisional mark of 7.89 meters (25-10.75) in finishing second behind LSU standout Walter Davis.
The TCU women's sprint relay quartet of La' Toya White, Chaunte Baldwin, Tiffany Starts and Monica Twum, posted an NCAA provisional time of 44.74, the third fastest time in the prelims behind only LSU and Texas. Their previous best mark this season was a 45.13 time at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational on March 16.
Friday's action also saw Michael Frater turn in the fastest time in the 100 meter dash prelims with a mark of 10.43 seconds. Freshman La' Toya White also will compete in Saturday's 100-meter dash finals on the women's side after posting a time of 11.86, the seventh fastest time among the university women.
The three-time defending TCU men's 4x100 meter relay team easily advanced to Saturday's final after posting the fifth best time in the prelims with a mark of 39.89. The quartet featured an anchor leg from Demario Wesley, running for the first time since the Conference USA indoor championships in late February.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team just missed qualifying for Saturday's finals despite knocking nearly five seconds off their previous best mark of the outdoor season.
The meet continues on Saturday with TCU athletes featured in the finals of both the men's and women's 100-meter dash, the finals of both the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay, the finals of the men's 4x400 meter relay and Brandal Lawrence in the triple jump.
