WACO, Texas - The TCU track and field team closed out its regular season Saturday at the Michael Johnson Classic at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex in Waco. The Horned Frogs got wins from Charles Silmon in the 200-meter dash and Cameron Parker in the triple jump.

"It was kind of windy and the wind was coming across the track all day," TCU head coach Darryl Anderson said. "It got cold, but the kids still competed and it became a competitive practice session for us. We had some good things happen in the throws and the sprints. The times and marks did not show the effort we put in. We still have plenty of work we need to put in before the Big 12 meet in two weeks."

Silmon took part in the men's 200-meter dash for only the second time in the outdoor season, that also taking place at Baylor back in March. The senior was able to get across the line first in 20.76 while running into a slight wind. He now ranks second in the Big 12 in the 200-meter dash with the top mark of 20.72 by Carlos Rodriguez of Kansas State in range.

"He was able to get on the board with his 20.76," Anderson noted. "He was not feeling too well, but he wanted to run and he got the job done. He is near the top of the Big 12, he is in the top-48 for the West Preliminaries and for us that is a mission accomplished."

Silmon also competed as part of the men's 4x100-meter relay with Harvey McSwain, Ronnie Baker and Raymond Bozmans, finishing second in 39.55. The six-time All-American did not compete in the 100-meter dash in an outdoor meet for the first time this year.

"Ramone Bailey did not travel with us today so we needed Harvey to step up in the lead off," Anderson noted. "It was nice that we were able to still run 39.55, it shows the depth we have in the sprints."

Parker picked up his third win of the season in the men's triple jump, earning first place honors with a wind-aided jump of 52-2 1/2 (15.91m). The senior is the Big 12 leader in the triple jump.

In the men's shot put, Paul Osunwa recorded the best mark of his career with a toss of 56-8 (17.27m) to finish in fifth. He recorded his top mark on his sixth and final throw of the competition.

TCU's women's throwers continued their strong performances Saturday. Megan Smith finished second in the shot put with a best mark of 53-5 1/2 (16.24m) and Kelsey Samuels finished fourth with a throw of 51-9 1/4 (15.78m). Smith was also third in the discus with a best throw of 165-8 (50.51m), and Samuels was sixth in the hammer throw at 172-1 (52.45m).

"All in all we had people competing and the effort was there today," Anderson concluded. "We will come back here in two weeks and if the conditions are the same we will be better prepared for it. We end the regular season on a positive note."

The Horned Frogs will be back to Waco in two weeks for the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The competition starts Friday, May 3.
