Brown Takes Silver Medal in Javelin
May 12, 2005
Houston - Freshman Joe Brown placed second in the javelin throw, highlighting the TCU Horned Frogs' efforts on the first day of the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held Thursday at the Lewis/Tellez Track Complex on the University of Houston campus.
Brown, a freshman from Overland Park, Kansas, logged a personal best mark of 61.75 meters (202-07) to place second and earn eight team points for the Frogs. Brown's previous best mark was 60.95 meters (200-00).
"It was a heck of an effort by Joe," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "He was our most improved athlete all season. When he started this spring with Coach (John) Kenneson, he barely knew how to hold the javelin. He saved his P.R. for the conference meet and came up with a second place finish. I couldn't be more happy for him."
The Frogs picked up another point when Steven Solazzo finished eighth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 32:30.08.
The conference meet continues on Friday with the first track event slated for 4:30 p.m.
