NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Get Underway

Sacramento, Calif. - The 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships got underway at the Alex Spanos Complex on the Sacramento State University campus on Wednesday. The meet began under rainy, wet and cool conditions.
TCU had a pair of sophomores compete in the preliminary rounds on Wednesday. MaKeatha Cooper placed 24th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.94 seconds, one spot better than she finished a year ago, while Nathandra John, competing in her first NCAA meet, finished 27th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.68 seconds. Neither runner advanced to the semifinals.
The meet continues on Thursday with junior Donita Harmon slated to run in the first round of the 200 meter dash at 7:20 p.m., and the 4x400 meter relay quartet of Marquita Davis, Deborah Jones, Harmon and John, set to take the track at 9 p.m. The Frogs' 4x4 unit is ranked fifth in the country, according to Trackwire.com.
