DES MOINES, Iowa – Former TCU star Jessica Young wrapped up her week at the USA Championships by competing in the semifinals of the women’s 200-meter dash Sunday at Drake Stadium. Young finished 14th overall in the 200.

“The goal was to make the World Championships team, and I didn’t accomplish that,” Young said. “It has been a rocky road, but I feel good about myself coming out of it. I am pleased with what I accomplished.”

After being the last qualifier for the 200-meter dash semifinal, it was always going to be an uphill battle for Young as she would be stuck in the undesired lane one. In a loaded heat that included Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix, Young finished eighth in her heat in 23.46. Two slower runners in the second heat allowed her to move up to 14th overall.

The finish added to her 12th place finish in the women’s 100-meter dash from earlier in the week. The move up the standings was also an improvement over her performance at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, where she finished in the 30s of both events. A seven-time All-American during her time in Fort Worth, Young has plenty ahead of her the rest of the year.

“I have a busy summer ahead,” Young noted. “I am going to be competing at a lot of meets, including a bunch in Europe.”
