Gipson And Silmon Advance At Olympic Trials Friday

EUGENE, Ore. - Whitney Gipson soared to the fourth-best jump in preliminary round action Friday night to lead TCU on the ninth day of competition of the 2012 United States Olympic Trials at Hayward Field.

Gipson, who was named Mountain West Athlete of the Year earlier this week, qualified for Sunday's final, leaping 22 feet, 5 inches on her first and only attempt to place fourth overall in the prelims. The 2012 National Champion, will look to punch her ticket to the Olympic Games in London Sunday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. CT.

In the men's 200 meters, Charles Silmon, a 2012 First Team All-America selection, moved on to the semifinals, clocking a time of 20.68 seconds. The Waco native placed fourth in heat No. 4 and 18th overall to advance to Saturday's semifinal round, which will begin at 8:00 p.m. CT.
