FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2014 outdoor season Thursday and Friday at the TCU Invitational at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex.

"The TCU Invitational is a great opportunity for our kids to run and showcase their talents in front of their home fans," TCU track and field coach Darryl Anderson said. "Historically, we've had good fan participation, and as always, we're looking forward to running at home."

Along with the TCU men's and women's teams, men's and women's teams from Kansas State, Baylor, UTA, UNT and Texas State and the women's team from SMU will complete in the event.

"Coming right off the NCAA championships this is a great opportunity to have a sufficiently competitive meet," Anderson said. "Everybody from the coaches to the kids on the team are excited about being outside and competing at home."

Competition gets underway at noon Thursday with the women's discus and it will be followed by the men's discus. The women's hammer throw will begin at 3 p.m. followed by the men's hammer throw.

Competition in the field events begin Friday at 9:30 a.m. with men's javelin. Running events get underway at 1 p.m. with the women's 4 x 400 meter relay.

The TCU High School Invitational is Saturday.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children/students ages 3-17.
