TCU Names Athletes of the Week
March 26, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU student-athletes Brandon Finnegan and Megan Smith have been honored with the Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week based on their recent performances.
Finnegan (4-2) was strong on the mound en route to the victory. He allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out 10. Only one runner advanced past first base and just once did the Red Raiders send more than four batters to the plate in an inning. Finnegan did not allow a run for the fourth time in six starts this season. He has not allowed a run in his last 14 1/3 innings pitched and he tallied 10 strikeouts for the fourth straight start and the fifth time this season.
The Horned Frog baseball team will travel to Stillwater, Okla., on Thursday to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The game will be played at Allie P. Reynolds stadium at 6:30 p.m.
Smith, a junior on the track and field team, set a new school record in women's discus during the TCU Invitational at Lowdon Track and Field Complex last Thursday. With a throw of 181-0 feet, Smith shattered her previous record (167-10) by almost 14 feet. Smith placed first in the competition out-throwing her nearest opponent, Baylor's Skylar White, by nine feet.
Smith and the Horned Frog track and field team look to continue their success at the Texas Relays in Austin. The event starts Wednesday at 3 pm and competition will continue through Friday.
