Frogs Head to Midwest for Drake Relays
April 23, 2014
"The Drake Relays and Penn Relays are the two big meets this week and it will be our first trip to the Drake Relays probably ever. They do a good job there and it's a great place to run," TCU track and field coach Darryl Anderson said. "It's a phenomenal experience and a great opportunity for our student-athletes."
For TCU, the meet gets underway Thursday with Ashley Eckhoff and Tricia Terry competing in the 5,000 meters beginning at approximately 8:40 p.m. University Division and College Division events kick off at 9:30 Friday morning. The meet concludes Saturday.
The meet will be contested at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
"We have kids on our team that have been to the Penn Relays but not to Drake so we thought it would be a good opportunity for them to go and give it a try," Anderson said "The kids will get to run in front of a packed house."
Following the Drake Relays, the Frogs will compete at the Texas Invitational May 3. The Big 12 Championships are set for May 16-18 in Lubbock.
"We are leaving a lot of people home (from the Drake Relays) to train and to get 100 percent healthy or get close to 100 percent healthy before we go into the postseason," Anderson said. "We're getting all our ducks in a row before we get into the Big 12 Conference, regionals and nationals."
