FORT WORTH - The awards keep rolling in for TCU sprinter Charles Silmon as he was named the 2013 Big 12 Outstanding Male Performer of the Year the conference announced Wednesday.

The honor, voted on by the league's coaches, comes on the heels of Silmon earning the High Point Award at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Silmon, running in his hometown of Waco, took the Big 12 Outdoor Championships by storm last weekend. After qualifying first in the 100 and 200-meter dash on Saturday, the senior made Sunday a day to remember. He started the day by leading the TCU men's 4x100-meter relay team to a commanding victory in 39.61. Silmon, running the second leg, was joined by three freshmen on the relay squad.

He next posted a victory in the men's 100-meter dash, taking the title in a wind-aided 10.18 seconds. He clinched his fourth 100-meter dash conference title of his career with the previous three coming in the Mountain West. He also helped the Horned Frogs win their 10th consecutive 100-meter dash conference title, dating back to TCU's time in Conference USA.

He saved his best performance for last. Running less than an hour after his 100-meter dash victory, Silmon won the 200-meter dash in style with a career-best time of 20.33. The time is the top mark in the NCAA this year, and the sixth-fastest time in the world this year.

Silmon helped the TCU men to a sixth place team finish with 75 points, and the Horned Frogs men to a No. 17 ranking in the USTFCCCA Division I National Rankings.

The Big 12 Championships was not a one-hit wonder for Silmon. The senior has been one of the NCAA's top sprinters this season. He has been among the nation's top-10 in the 100-meter dash all season, and has been instrumental in TCU having the No. 8 4x100-meter relay team in the country. At the Texas Relays, Silmon became the third man in TCU history to go below 10 seconds in the 100-meter dash with his wind-aided time of 9.94 seconds.

During the indoor season, Silmon earned First-Team All-America honors in the 60-meter dash for his third place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The six-time All-American won the Big 12 Indoor title in the 60-meter dash and finished third in the 200-meter dash.

Silmon and the TCU track and field team will return to action at the NCAA West Preliminaries May 23-25 in Austin.
