FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU track and field program saw six of its student-athletes and its women’s team earn Scholastic All-Academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday.
Raymond Bozmans of the men’s team and Samantha Reynolds, Kelsey Samuels, Makena Schroder, Megan Smith and Tricia Terry of the women’s squad all earned Scholastic All-Academic individual honors. The TCU women’s team earned the team Scholastic All-Academic Award for its grade point average for the Spring 2013 semester.
The TCU women’s team recorded a 3.15 GPA for the Spring 2013 semester. The Frogs had eight women named to the Academic All-Big 12 team and an additional six student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
Bozmans, a Fort Collins, Colo. native, was one of TCU’s top sprinters in 2013, anchoring for the Big 12 Champion and first-team All-America 4x100 meter relay team. He also finished second at the Big 12 Championships in the 100-meter dash behind Charles Silmon. Bozmans is a Mechanical Engineering major.
Reynolds, a Mesa, Ariz. Native, qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in the triple jump during the outdoor season. She took eighth in the Big 12 Indoor Championships in the triple jump. Reynolds graduated in May with a degree in Movement Science.
Samuels, a Mesquite, Texas native, was one of TCU’s best throwers that could contribute across many events. Samuels scored points for the Horned Frogs in the shot put (fifth) and discus (eighth) at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. Though she just missed out on team points with her ninth place in the hammer throw at the conference championships, she set the school record for the event at 176-8 (53.85m). At the NCAA West Preliminaries, she took 14th place in the shot put. Samuels graduated in May with a degree in Journalism.
Schroder, a freshman from Sandy, Ore., made important contributions to the Frogs in the javelin during the outdoor season. She is now TCU’s school record holder in the javelin with her toss of 148-9 (45.34m) and finished seventh in the event at the Big 12 Championships. She was also a qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries. Schroder is an Education major.
Smith, an Olathe, Kan. native, was TCU’s top thrower in 2013 with some of the best efforts in school history. She earned top-five finishes at the outdoor conference championships in the shot put and discus. Smith extended her school record in the discus to 167-10 (51.16m), and went on to finish 14th in the disc at the NCAA West Preliminaries. Smith took fifth in the shot put at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. She is a Biology major.
Terry, a McAllen, Texas native, was one of the Frogs’ stars at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, earning top-six finishes in the mile and the 3,000-meter run. Terry took down the school record in the 3,000 during her performance and missed out on the mile record by a quarter-of-a-second. She was also a crucial contributor to the TCU cross country squad during the fall 2012 campaign. Terry is a Movement Science major.
