TCU welcomed three new coaches to the program

Oct. 12, 2012

FORT WORTH – Over the last three months, TCU’s track and field program has welcomed many new faces to its coaching staff. GoFrogs.com sat down with David Freeman, Kevin Henderson and Shawn Jackson to discuss their time with the Horned Frogs so far.

Director of Operations/Assistant Coach David Freeman:
GoFrogs.com:
How has your first few months on the job been?
Freeman: It’s been exciting. It has been a whirlwind experience, in a sense, because everything happened so quickly. Once I got here, I immediately was on the recruiting trail and started helping coach (Liz) Wort with the cross country team. It has been exciting, and it is an exciting time to be at TCU.

GoFrogs.com: What made you decide you want to come to TCU?
Freeman: It felt right. coach (Darryl) Anderson’s philosophies and how he sees the program going into the Big 12 made it feel like a good fit to me. Then helping coach Wort build the distance side of the program, it just felt like the right time to make the jump.

GoFrogs.com: How has the 2012 cross country season gone from your perspective?
Freeman: It has been good. We have seen progress in the student-athletes, which is a good thing. It is always what you want to accomplish. They are moving in the right direction and are starting to see the fruits of their labor. It is a fun thing to see that happen and see them want to be better and do better.

Assistant Coach Kevin Henderson
GoFrogs.com: How has your time at TCU been so far?
Henderson: It has been a great experience. It has been fast-paced and quick. For the most part I have had a lot of fun making the adjustment.

GoFrogs.com: What made you decide you want to come to TCU?
Henderson: I would say DA (Darryl Anderson). He coached me at Arizona State when he was a young assistant during my post-collegiate career. He has been a mentor to me, and when I had the opportunity to step in and become part of his program I relished the opportunity.

GoFrogs.com: What do you think about the student-athletes you have gotten the chance to meet and work with?
Henderson: It has been very good. They have been very receptive and very open. This is a well-coached group. The group here is very open to the entire coaching staff. Hopefully that will pay off in the winter, and during the season.

Assistant Coach Shawn Jackson
GoFrogs.com: How has your time at TCU been so far?
Jackson: It has been great. The people here are really nice and very helpful. It has been great since I have been here.

GoFrogs.com: What made you decide you want to come to TCU?
Jackson: When I came here for my interview, I treated it like I was a student-athlete being recruited. The campus was great, the academic support system TCU has in place is great, and we have the resources here to be one of the best teams in the country. That is important to me.

GoFrogs.com: What do you think about the student-athletes you have gotten the chance to meet and work with?
Jackson: It has been great. They are motivated and dedicated to the things we are trying to do. They are always working to get better so I have enjoyed working with them so far.
