Barbara Kovacs

Barbara Kovacs

Assistant Coach

Barbara Kovacs is beginning her third year as an assistant coach on Prentice Lewis' staff. Kovacs, who was named to the position on February 25, 2002, is serving her second stint with the Horned Frogs. Previously, she served under Sandy Troudt from 1998 to 2001 as an assistant.

"Barbara Kovacs is great both in the office and in the gym. She takes care of everything in the office as well as recruiting and corresponding with recruits," said head coach Prentice Lewis.

"Barbara is so competitive. She loves to play against our players and pushes them to the next level," added Lewis. "Barbara comes with a long history at TCU and she's helped this program tremendously as it gets off its hind legs."

Kovacs has been part of the TCU volleyball program as an assistant coach since 1998. She joined the Horned Frog staff after a successful four-year playing career at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

During her collegiate career, the Hungarian-born Kovacs led the Patriots to four NCAA tournament berths. In 1995, George Mason defeated Indiana in the first round before falling to eventual national champion Nebraska in the second round. She was a three-time all-Colonial Athletic Association selection and finished her career as one of the top statistical performers in Patriots' history.

Kovacs was also recognized as an outstanding student while at George Mason, garnering Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition in five-consecutive semesters. She was also named a Scholar Athlete in the Colonial Athletic Association in 1996 and was honored as a George Mason Scholar Athlete.

Apart from Kovacs' collegiate career, she also competed as a member of the Hungarian Junior National Team from 1991 to 1993, and was a member of the Women's National Team from 1994 to 1997. In 1993, Kovacs participated in the Junior World Championships.

Kovacs earned her bachelor's degree in international studies from George Mason in 1997. She then earned her Masters of Liberal Arts degree from TCU in 2000.
