Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Horned Frogs faced a tough loss in the three-game loss to the San Francisco Dons in the second match of the TCU Molten Invitational. Despite some jaw-dropping saves, the Frogs fell 30-22, 30-23, 30-18 in the short match.

The palpable loss of senior Dominika Szabo for the weekend to a leg injury left the Frogs scrambling. Sophomore Agi Nemeth and junior Hayley Harmon stepped in to make up for the absence. The Frogs picked up their play after a frustrating first game wherein San Francisco's KeLicia Shorts landed almost every attack with little resistance. She ended her day with a .500 attack average, hitting 13 of 24 attacks with only one error. She was the dominating player in the first game, helping the Dons to a 30-22 first game win.

The Frogs finally answered her in the second game. The Purple and White crowd got rowdy as the Horned Frogs began cleaning the floor with impressive defensive work in the back row, led by freshman Talaya Whitfield, who collected nine digs on her own. The score stayed tight up to 20-20; a service error by the Frogs began the quick crumble of the purple defense and resulted in a 23-30 second game loss.

The third game rapidly went the way of the first, ending the match 30-18 in favor of San Francisco. Every attack landed for the Dons; every attack backfired for the Frogs. Match point was decided off a Frog attack error.

For the Frogs, sophomore Emily Allen led with eight kills in a .438 average while Whitfield saved 17 digs.

The TCU Horned Frogs look to revisit the winning column tomorrow when they take on Grambling State at 10:30 a.m. and Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m. Both opponents faced off earlier today, with Grambling coming away with the clean sweep. The 4 p.m. match admittance is free with a valid ticket for the 6 p.m. TCU-USF football game. All matches can be followed via Gametracker on the gofrogs.com website.
