TCU Ends Record-Breaking Season with Sweep of Fairfield
Nov. 27, 2004
FORT WORTH, Texas - Senior Dominika Szabo tallied her 1,000th dig in tonight's win over Fairfield at the University Rec Center. The Horned Frogs completed their season tonight with their 23rd win, the most wins TCU has ever put together in a single season, and escaped with single-digit losses in their 23-9 season.
TCU carried over its late offensive surge from last night, hitting a .378 in the final game. Sophomore Anna Vaughn led the Frogs offensively with 16 kills and no errors for a .533, with seniors Szabo and Ellen Rehme adding 13 apiece again. Freshman libero Talaya Whitfield entered another 18 digs to finish the season with a new TCU record of 619. Szabo's eight digs helped boost her past the 1,000 mark to become only the third player ever in school history to do so, and to reach the thousand-thousand mark with 1,562 kills, 1,007 digs. Her kill tally puts her at second in the records. Rehme's 501 kills put her at third most kills in a season in the records. Emily Allen aced three serves to bring her season total to 59, another TCU record.
The Fairfield Stags never led in any of the games; the closest they came was a six-six tie in the third game. Jazmin Pa'akaula, Casey Machon and Lindsey Lee each tallied six kills to lead the team, while Lauren Laramore had a match-leading 23 digs.
