Lewis Completes 2005 Coaching Staff
Jan. 20, 2005
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head volleyball coach Prentice Lewis announced today the addition of Linda Hampton to her staff. Hampton will help with volleyball operations as well as training in the gym and assisting with recruiting for the Horned Frogs, who are coming off a 23-9 second place finish in C-USA last season. She replaces long-time assistant Barbara Kovacs, who departed in December to play professional volleyball in her hometown of Budapest, Hungary.
"We are very excited to have Linda Hampton on our staff," Coach Lewis commented. "She adds a great deal to our program. Her experience with the USA Olympic Development Program and with the USA High Performance Program adds to our excitement."
Hampton echoes this enthusiasm. "I am very excited about being a part of the TCU Athletic family," she said. "This program has experienced tremendous success under head coach Prentice Lewis and I am looking forward to working with Prentice and Jason in continuing to build upon what this program has already accomplished."
Hampton joins the Horned Frog volleyball program with coaching experience from every level of volleyball competition, having coached at the high school, club, national and collegiate levels. Hampton comes to TCU after a one-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of North Texas. Her responsibilities with the Mean Green included marketing, match scouting and preparation as well as assisting with on court development. Prior to North Texas, Hampton spent two years as an assistant coach at Florida International University where she served as the recruiting coordinator.
A native of Gainesville, Fla., Hampton began her coaching career as a volunteer at the local Girl's Club. In 1999, she was named the head coach at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School. During her three years as head coach, P.K. Yonge posted three consecutive state final four appearances, including the 2000 Florida State Championship title. Hampton was also named Gainesville Sun All-Area Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and also received the Dairy Farmer's Class 2A State Coach of the Year title in 2000.
Hampton's summers keep her busy, as she has spent the past five summers working with the USA Olympic Volleyball Program where she coaches with various development camps all over the country. This includes the USA High Performance Program where she coaches the nation's top youth in the 15-and under age group. Her various camp experiences include the University of Texas, University of Florida, UCLA and TCU.
