TCU Defeats Rice, 3-1, For Season Sweep
FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 26) - TCU halted a short three-match losing streak with a 3-1 (15-11, 15-11, 14-16, 15-7) win over Rice on Friday night at the Rickel Center as TCU won both matches against Rice this season. The story of the match for TCU (10-19, 4-9 WAC) was sophomore setter Lindsay Hayes (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements HS) who tied her own school record with 75 assists.
TCU dominated the Owls (11-22, 2-11 WAC) for much of the match. The Frogs hit .235 as a team compared to the Owls .097. In the three games that they won, the Horned Frogs recorded more kills than Rice. TCU also had a higher attack percentage in each game than did the Owls.
Sophomore outside hitter Marci King (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) led TCU with 26, a single-match high for any individual performer this season for TCU. King also became the first player in TCU history to record two 20+ kill and 20+ dig matches for her career by adding 20 digs.
Rice was paced by a pair of players with more than 20 kills. Outside hitter Kelly Smith landed 23 kills and outside hitter Leigh Leman smashed 21.
The Frogs finish their season tomorrow night. TCU hosts Tulsa at 7 p.m. at the Rickel Center in the final match of the season and the final match in the careers of seniors Stacy Olson (Richardson, Texas/Pearce HS), Jessica Rangel (San Antonio, Texas/Clark HS) and Jill Pape (San Antonio, Texas/East Central HS).
