Owls Take Volleyball Frogs in Three
HOUSTON, Texas (Nov. 16) - A 3-0 loss to the Rice Owls Nov. 16 gave the Frogs their second consecutive conference loss and lowered their record to 14-16 (5-8 WAC) while the Owls improved their record to 16-15 (5-9 WAC).
The Owls jumped out to a 9-2 lead in game one to set the tone for the evening. TCU battled back to make it close at but could not overcome the Owls early lead, falling 15-12. Thing got better before they got worse for the Frogs as they played their best volleyball in game two. TCU stretched an early 2-0 lead into an 8-4 lead before the Owls began to climb back into it. Rice fought off three game points before posting a 7-1 scoring run to take game two, 17-15. Rice picked up where it left off in game three as they scored six points before the Frogs hit the board. The Owls closed out the Frogs 15-7 to take the game and match.
"We just did not play well," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "Its tough to make things happen when you dont pass the ball well and you have 34 attack errors."
TCU hit just .130 (55-34-161) for the match while Rice did not fare much better at .152. Amy Atamanczuk recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs. Marci King added 13 kills of her own, while Jenn Cuca came off the bench to record five kills on seven attacks and eight digs in just one game.
TCU heads to El Paso to take on the UTEP Miners at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for their final road match of the season.
