Volleyfrogs Drop Fourth Consecutive WAC Contest
FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 20) - The San Jose State Spartans took care of business with an impressive 3-0 win over TCU Nov. 20. San Jose locked up sole possession of second place in the WAC and improved its record to 21-7 (12-3 WAC) while TCU falls to 14-18 (5-10 WAC).
The Spartans jumped on the Frogs early taking a 6-0 lead in game one and eventually putting them away 15-6. After falling behind 4-0 in game two the Frogs battled back to make it interesting. TCU took a brief 5-4 lead but could not withstand the Spartans powerful offense, falling 15-9. Game three was more of the same as TCU fell behind 7-2 and could not overcome the early deficit. The Spartans put the Frogs away with a 15-11 win in game three, sweeping the season series 2-0.
"We didnt play well enough to beat a good team like San Jose," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "I am proud of how hard the girls fought tonight, but we need to execute a little better on offense to beat good teams."
The execution Troudt is talking about shows in the teams hitting percentage. The Frogs hit just .139 and committed 29 attack errors. During TCUs current four game slide they have hit under .180 in each match and committed a total of 128 attack errors.
Marci King led the Frogs with 11 kills while Bethany Toce recorded a season high 11 kills. Lindsay Hayes recorded her 10th double-double of the season with a 40 assists and 11 digs.
TCU concludes its season with Fresno State Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
