Cozart Leads TCU For Second-Straight Year
Sept. 2, 2016
Women's Results | Men's Results
WACO, Texas -- For the second-straight year, sophomore Anna Cozart led the Horned Frog effort at the Bear Twilight Invitational Thursday at the H.O.T. Soccer Complex in Waco. Cozart finished the 4,000-meter race 12th overall, clocking in at 14:30.9. Junior Matthew Brown paced the men's squad with a time of 12.51.8 in the 4K, placing 23rd overall.
The event was almost canceled due to lightning in the area. The women's race was delayed 40 minutes, while the men's race was moved from a 6,000-meter race to a 4K to preserve daylight.
"Under circumstances that removed them from their normal routine, this team handled the change very well and didn't let it impact their training," said cross country coach Jennifer Fazioli.
Despite the altered schedule, juniors Nicole Hicks (14:40.3, 17th) and Dominique Tilly (15:11.9, 26th) saw improvements from last year's season opener, and in her Purple and White debut, freshman Lindsay Tomaini moved up the entire race and placed 25th overall, finishing with a time of 15:11.3.
"I thought the women performed well, and the men demonstrated that we are moving in the right direction in their training. There is still much to work on but that's to be expected in early September."
The men's and women's cross country teams will take the next week off before heading to Denton, Texas on Sep. 17 for the Ken Garland Invitational.
