- TCU's cross country teams competed in its final meet prior to the Big 12 Championships Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival. The TCU women's squad took ninth place in the team standings.

"Overall we struggled a bit as a team," head coach Liz Wort said. "We had a few things happen out of our control, but we learned a lot about how to push our limits. We are going to come out of this weekend learning a lot, and we will hopefully benefit from it over the next two meets."

The Horned Frogs women were led by Tricia Terry, who finished 22nd overall in the women's 6K in a time of 21:53.5.

"Tricia had her best race of the year," Wort noted. "We talked about running from behind instead of being as aggressive early in her races. The strategy worked really well for her."

Agnes Kemboi finished 25th in a time of 21:58.9. Kemboi was among the leaders for the majority of the race before fading late. However, in spite of the set back Wort saw Saturday as a valuble learning opportunity for her star runner.

"We talked about trying to win today," Wort said. "She was in the lead with 1,000 meters to go, and she pushing pretty hard. It was the first time she had really been challenged all year."

"She ran a great race," Wort continued. "She ran really tough and hard. With 400 or 800 to go it looked like she was going to struggle to finish the race. I was proud of her for getting over the line. She learned a lot about racing strategy today. We have wanted her to be more aggressive later on in the race. She may have been a little too aggressive in the middle of the race. It might take her a few days to recover from this one."

Also putting in a strong effort for TCU was Laura Orlie, who took 52nd overall in a time of 22:26.9.

The TCU men's team finished 23rd in the 10K competition. The Horned Frogs were led by Preston Newsome, who finished 89th in a time of 32:48.4.

The Horned Frogs will make their Big 12 Championships debut on Oct. 27. The conference championships will be held in Austin, Texas.
