Goertzen, Women's XC Named All-Academic

Feb. 9, 2017

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Brenley Goertzen and the TCU women's cross country team earned All-Academic honors, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday. Goertzen garnered the individual academic award, while the women's squad received team recognition with an overall GPA of 3.47.

Goertzen, a native of Woodbury, Minn., produced a sophomore cross country year to remember, with her biggest outings coming down the stretch to close out the 2016 season. After notching a bronze medal at the Big 12 Championships with a career-best 6K time of 20:35.1, Goertzen led the Horned Frogs to a program-best sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regional meet. Goertzen blazed through the race, clocking in at 20:38.2 to earn an individual bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Goertzen was the first Frog to make it to nationals since Agnes Kemboi in 2012.

In order to qualify for the individual honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
