With the official start of the cross country season only about a month away, GoFrogs.com gives readers an opening look of some of the individuals ready to shine during the 2008 cross country season.
Fresh off an impressive all-conference outdoor season, Kigen returns following a sophomore campaign in which he represented TCU at the NCAA Championships. Overall, he led TCU in every meet last fall and finished 10th overall at the South Central Regional to punch his ticket to nationals. His 15th-place effort at the Mountain West Championships led TCU in Albuquerque, N.M., while his 10K time of 30:04.03 at the regional ranked second in the Mountain West Conference. Kigen, who was named to the 2007 South Central Region cross country team, posted a season best time of 24:34:00 in the 8K, finished first overall at the North Texas Invitational on Sept. 15, while turning in back-to-back top-10 performances at the Cowboy Jamboree and Chili Pepper Festival, respectively.
After an all-conference indoor season, Ivandic will look to improve even more following a breakout 2007 cross country season. During last fall, the Fort Worth native led TCU at every meet except one as a true freshman. Her top-finish was a second-place performance at the UNT Invite where she ran 19:11.51.
Pels had a solid freshman campaign at TCU in 2007 and could be a factor for the men's squad this fall after placing third in the 1,500 meters at the TCU Invitational and Meen Green Twilight during the outdoor season. Overall, he finished third in the first three meets last fall.
Selner returns for her junior year, after finishing second amongst TCU runners in four different meets, including the final three meets of the season last fall. During the 2008 track and field season, Selner earned all-conference honors as a member of the third-place distance medley relay at the MWC Indoor Championships. She also recorded an eighth-place finish at the Texas Relays in the 1,500 and a first-place showing in the event at the Horned Frog Invitational.
