TCU set for Texas A&M Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU cross country program will continue its 2007 season on Saturday morning at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station. Start time for the men's 8K race is set for 7:45 a.m., while the women's 5K will follow at 8:30 a.m. at the Penberthy Intramural Fields.

Teams competing in College Station are host school Texas A&M, Lamar, Rice, Texas, TCU, Houston, UT-Pan American, Sam Houston State, Monterrey Tech, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M Commerce and Texas A&M International.

Scouting TCU
The women's team, which is currently ranked eighth in the South Central Region, will look to once again have a strong outing this weekend after winning the North Texas Invite on Sept. 15.

Leading the way for the Horned Frogs during the early portion of the season has been freshman Tanja Ivandic and sophomore Dani Selner.

On the men's side, Festus Kigen continues to pace the Horned Frogs this fall after collecting first-place honors at the UNT Invite. Kigen and senior Matt Manly, who placed sixth in Denton, will look to improve on their times this weekend.

Last Time Out (Women and Kigen finish first overall)
The TCU women's cross country teams earned a first-place finish, while the men placed third overall on Sept. 15 at the North Texas Invitational held at the Eagle Point Cross Country Course.

Overall, TCU had five runners place in the top 10, led by Festus Kigen, who won the men's 8K race.

On the women's side, TCU accumulated 33 points to overtake Northwood for first place on the day.

Leading the pack for the Horned Frogs was freshman Tanja Ivandic, who finished second out of 39 runners in the women's 5K race in a time of 19:11.51. Dani Selner, a sophomore from Houston, followed by crossing the finish line in sixth-place with a time of 19:28.40.

Five other TCU runners finished 10th through 18th. Pacing the pack of Horned Frogs was Ashley Young, who finished 10th in a time of 19:46.19. Young was followed by Shannon Andrew (20:01.68), Ashley Millerick (20:03.56) and Cassie Hostick (20:05.41), who placed 12th, 13th and 14th overall.



Rounding out the top 18 was Amber Carlisle, who ran a time of 20:18.29. Other runners competing for the Horned Frogs included, Carlene Mayfield (20:46.08), Heidi Barr (20:56.59) and Amanda Foust (20:59.20). All three runners grabbed the 22nd, 23rd and 24th spots, respectively.

On the men's side, TCU totaled 65 points and finished behind Baylor and host school North Texas. The Bears, won the 8K race with 33 points.

Following Kigen's first-place showing in a time of 24:41.33, senior Matt Manly placed sixth with a time of 25:46.33.

Crossing the finish line in 14th was Jeff Pels (27:15.64), while Jake Womeldorf placed 22nd overall with a time of 28:06.24. Ryan Dalrymple, a freshman from Pasadena, Calif., followed by turning in a time of 28:39.04 to finish 25th overall.

Rounding out the TCU runners was freshman Andrew McDonald. McDonald posted a time of 29:53.76 to place 27th out of 38 runners.

Kigen Solid Again
After finishing second overall at the season opening meet, sophomore Festus Kigen placed first at the UNT Invite with a time of 24:41.33. By crossing the finish line in 24 minutes, Kigen's time currently ranks him first in the Mountain West Conference.

Runners Run Away With Awards
The TCU cross country program's Festus Kigen and Tanja Ivandic were named Male Athlete of the Week and Gullivers' Travel Road Warrior of the Week, respectively, following their performances in Denton.

Overall, Kigen has been named both Male Athlete of the Week and Road Warrior of the Week this fall.

Women Have Solid Weekend
On the women's side, TCU had seven runners place in the top-18 at North Texas to win the team title. Overall, the Horned Frogs had no runner finish lower then 24th out of 38 runners.

Next Opponent
TCU will travel to Stillwater, Okla., on Sept. 29 for the Cowboy Jamboree. The meet is set for 9 a.m. in Stillwater.
