Cross Country Prepares for Ken Garland Invitational
Sept. 26, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU cross country teams are back in action at the Ken Garland Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Eagle Point Cross Country Course in Denton.
The women's 5,000-meter race begins at 10:50 a.m., with the men's four-mile event following at 11:20 a.m.
"This weekend, I want them to get a solid effort in," coach Laura Harmon said. "On the women's side, I want them to work together for this meet. So, I am having them run as a pack to start, and be more conservative and work their way up the field. I still want them to compete, but I want it to be a pretty controlled effort so we can have a tighter pack and work as a team."
Two weeks ago, the women's team had three freshmen place in the top 11 in their 5,000-meter race at the UT-Arlington Season Opener. Bailey Sullivan posted a ninth place finish at 18:18.4 and Anna Cozart and Dominique Tilly followed closely after with 10th and 11th place-times, respectively.
"For the men I want to see them improve each meet, and just not be afraid to go out and compete with other schools," Harmon added. "I would like to see them mixing it up with teams like UNT and Baylor more, and their workouts indicate that they can do that."
Competing at the event from the women's squad include junior Nicole Bell, sophomores Breanne Ball and Miranda Speir and freshmen Anna Cozart, Nicole Hicks,Arin Rice, Bailey Sullivan and Dominique Tilly.
