Cross Country Ranked Ninth in Region

Oct. 3, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's cross country team has been ranked ninth in the latest edition of the South Central regional rankings by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced Monday.

This marks the best position for the Horned Frogs since they were ranked No. 8 during the 2010 season. They were ranked 10th last week.

The Horned Frogs welcome the ranking after a third-place finish at the 28th annual Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday, marking the best finish in program history at the meet. Their previous best outing was a seventh-place finish in 2004.

Sophomore Brenley Goertzen led the charge as she raced to a 16th-place time of 17:06.28 in the 5,000-meter race. Sophomores Kirsten Johnston (17:29.39) and Anna Cozart (17:31.34) followed closely in 20th and 21st, while junior Nicole Hicks made an impact in her return to the team with a time of 17:48.25.

TCU will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. Races are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
