FORT WORTH - TCU has named defensive lineman Jon Koontz and cross country runner Agnes Kemboi as its Scholar-Athletes of the Month for September. Koontz and Kemboi are being honored not just for their efforts on the field, but also in the classroom.
Koontz, a junior from Aledo, Texas, has been one of the key members of TCU's defensive front through five games. To go along with two tackles, Koontz intercepted a pass in the Horned Frogs' win against SMU. He is a entrepreneurial management major who earned Academic All-Mountain West last season.
Kebmoi, a senior from Eldoret, Kenya, has been the star of TCU's women's cross country season. Kemboi won both of TCU's meets in September, taking first in the Ken Garland Inivte and the Notre Dame Invitational. She earned Big 12 Runner of the Week for both performances. Kemboi is a nursing major and has earned multiple Academic All-Mountain West honors.
Koontz and the TCU football team return to action Satuday at Baylor. Kemboi and the cross country squad travels to Fayetteville, Ark. at the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday.
