Cross Country Ranked Seventh in Region

Oct. 31, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fresh off an eighth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, the TCU women's cross country team has been ranked seventh in the final South Central regional rankings, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday.

The latest poll marks the best position for the Horned Frogs since joining the Big 12. TCU was ranked eighth in the previous edition two weeks ago.

The team has steadily climbed the rankings this year as they've put up noteworthy performances throughout the season. The Frogs recorded a third-place finish at the 28th annual Chile Pepper Festival and placed second at the Ken Garland Invitational. Both efforts marked program bests at the meets for TCU. The squad then recorded a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational. Most recently, sophomore Brenley Goertzen led TCU and most of the field as she earned bronze at the Big 12 Championship with a career-best time of 20:35.1 in the 6,000-meter race.

Goetzen's third overall finish marked the best for TCU in its five-year Big 12 history and the first All-Big 12 honor since Agnes Kemboi placed 12th in 2012.

The final regional rankings will be based on placements at the NCAA Division I Regional Championships on Nov. 11.
