Dec. 1, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Brenley Goertzen of women's cross country and Matt Boggs of football have been named TCU's Scholar-Athletes of the Month for their impressive performances on and off the field throughout the month of November.

Goertzen, a native of Woodbury, Minn., produced a sophomore cross country year to remember, with her biggest outings coming down the stretch to close out the 2016 season. After notching a bronze medal at the Big 12 Championships with a career-best 6K time of 20:35.1, Goertzen led the Horned Frogs to a program-best sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regional meet. Goertzen blazed through the race, clocking in at 20:38.2 to earn an individual bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Goertzen was the first Frog to make it to nationals since Agnes Kemboi in 2012.

Goertzen is majoring in strategic communications and was named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Boggs, a native of Benton, La., has been a staple for the Horned Frogs' special teams throughout the year as the team's long snapper. Through the efforts of the kicking team, Boggs has assisted in 92 total points on special teams as the team has converted 15 field goals and has kicked 47 PATs.

Boggs is majoring in business management and recently garnered First-Team Academic All-Big 12 recognition for the second-consecutive year.
