Shotzberger enters his fifth season at TCU after spending one season as an assistant coach at Duke University. His responsibilities at TCU include coaching the catchers, throwing batting practice, manning the bullpen during games and filling in as the first base coach.

"Ryan continues to do a tremendous job of coaching our catchers and assisting with the hitters," said head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "In addition, he is a tireless worker coordinating our field maintenance as well as leading the great growth of our youth baseball camps and clinics."

"I am extremely excited to be part of a winning tradition here at TCU," said Shotzberger. "Getting to work under Coach Schlossnagle is a great opportunity for me. He's won everywhere he's been. Not only is he a tremendous baseball coach, he's a tremendous person. Being on a staff with Coach Tony Vitello and Coach Randy Mazey is going to be a great experience for me to continue to develop my coaching skills from guys who have been doing it for so long."

Since coming to TCU, Shotzberger has mentored two all-conference catchers in Andrew Walker and Bryan Holaday. Walker was a fifth-round draft pick in 2007 by the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2009, Holaday led the league in the stolen base percentage against, throwing out 53% of runners.

2010 also brought more honors for Shotzberger's crew of catchers as Holaday was selected as the 2010 Johnny Bench Award winner, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher. Holaday dominated the opposition's run game, throwing out 46% of base stealers and picking off a team-high seven runners. The Detroit Tigers selected Holaday in the sixth round and assigned him to their Advanced A club to begin his professional career. In addition, Josh Elander was tabbed a Louisville Slugger All-American.

Along with the individual successes overseen by Shotzberger, the team has also achieved new heights in program history. He has been apart of four straight 40-win seasons, seven conference championships (4 regular season, 3 conference tournaments), four NCAA Regionals, two NCAA Regional Championships (2009 and 2010), two NCAA Super Regionals (2009 and 2010) and one College World Series (2010). The Frogs are a combined 186-65 (.741) in his time at TCU.

Shotzberger spent the 2006 season with the Blue Devils in the ACC. While at Duke, he was responsible for assisting with the catchers and infielders. Among his many duties with the Blue Devils, Shotzberger helped with the growth of the Duke Baseball Academy and the Rising Star Baseball Academy. On game days, he threw batting practice and coached the bullpen.

Prior to his time at Duke, Shotzberger was an assistant coach at Cecil Community College for one season. He was responsible for coaching the infielders, hitters, base runners and catchers as well as coaching third base and throwing batting practice on game days.

Along with his two stints as an assistant coach, Shotzberger has worked summer camps around the country, including camps at Tulane, Auburn, Florida State, North Carolina, UNLV and Duke.

In his playing days, Shotzberger was a shortstop at McDaniel College. He earned first-team All-Centennial Conference honors in 2003 and 2004 as well as team MVP honors. At the completion of his collegiate career, he had climbed the career charts and ranks second in career doubles (23) and career triples (10) and third in home runs (13). He holds the top spot for runs scored in a season with 41 and has the seventh-highest career batting average all-time at .380.
