FORT WORTH, Texas - In their annual alumni game, the 2006 Horned Frogs topped the Alumni squad, 9-1. The Frogs got the job done both on the mound and at the plate. Jake Arrieta twirled five strong innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 11. At the plate, Andrew Walker was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI.

Arrieta struck out the side around a one-out double off the bat of Stuart Musslewhite start the game and the Frogs never looked back. The varsity squad sent seven men to the plate, taking a 2-0 lead off of Lance Broadway. Bryan Kervin got the ball rolling with a one-out single and scored on a triple from Chad Huffman. A Keith Conlon single rounded out the scoring in the first inning.

Once again, Arrieta struck out the side in the second. The Frogs increased their lead in the bottom of the inning to 3-0 on a lead-off home run by Matt Carpenter.

The Frogs put together back-to-back three run innings to take a commanding 9-0 lead after four innings. In the third three runs crossed the plate on a hit and an error. The highlight of the inning was a Walker double that plated Matt McGuirk, who was hit to lead off the inning.

TCU collected three straight hits to open the fourth inning. The Frogs got RBI doubles from McGuirk and Walker and a RBI single from Carpenter to round out the scoring.

The Frogs pounded out 13 hits in the contest and played flawless defense. The Alumni squad was led by Musslewhite, who had two doubles in the contest. Clay Carruthers kept the Frogs off the scoreboard with a scoreless inning pitched.

 

 

The Frogs will get the regular season started on Friday when they head to Houston to take part in the Houston College Classic. TCU will take on Tulane in the opening game of the Classic beginning at Noon.
