Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs squandered a five-run lead in the final three innings to the Dallas Baptist Patriots, en route to a 10-9 loss at Lupton Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Frogs committed two errors in the game, costing them five unearned runs. Shelby Ford, Chris Neuman and Kyle Dahlberg each connected for their first home runs of the season in the loss.

For the second straight game, TCU found themselves trailing in the early innings as the Patriots jumped out to a three-run lead after two and a half innings. The Frogs mounted a rally in the bottom of the third as they sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs.

Dahlberg led off the inning with a solo home run to left. After Ramon Moses and Nate Thomas reached base, Ford uncleared them with a three-run shot down the right field line, putting the Frogs up one, 4-3. Sean Stephens hit a sacrifice fly to plate Neuman and Austin Adams drove in German Duran with a double to left center, putting the Frogs up four after three innings of play.

Neuman extended the Frog lead to five, 8-3, with a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning, but reliever Lance Broadway found his groove and mowed the Frogs down, striking out eight batters over the next four innings, including a stretch of five in a row.

In his first start of the season, Clayton Jerome pitched five innings before handing it over to the bullpen. Ryan Weems pitched a perfect sixth inning before trouble struck in the seventh. Catcher Ned Yost led off the inning with a triple and scored on an error by Moses. Weems got the next two batters out, but the Patriots collected three straight hits and scored three runs, pulling within one, 8-7 after seven innings.

Another error in the eighth inning by the Frogs cost them the lead as DBU was able to load the bases with nobody out. After a Chris McCulloch single tied the game, Ben Zobrist hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to give the Patriots a 9-8 lead and at the end of the top half of the eighth, the Patriots led 10-8.

TCU went quietly in the eighth, but tried to rally in the ninth after Ford doubled to lead off the inning. Neuman grounded out to drive in Ford, pulling the Frogs within one, 10-9, but TCU was unable to get the tying run on base as they lost their first game of the season.

For TCU, Ramon Moses led the charge offensively as he was 3-for-4 at the plate for the second straight game. Clint Mokry picked up the loss in relief as he allowed three runs, one earned, in only 2/3 innings pitched. Jerome left the game allowing only three runs on five hits, striking out six while walking only one in the no-decision.

The Horned Frogs, now 1-1 on the season, will return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 13 when they host Texas State in a three-game weekend series. Game time for Friday's contest is slated for 7 p.m. at Lupton Stadium.
