FORT WORTH - The TCU varsity baseball team handed the Alumni squad an 11-3 defeat Saturday at Lupton Stadium. Freshman Tyler Alexander set the tone for the Varsity squad with six shutout innings. Kyle Bacak and Kevin Cron each had a pair of hits in the game.

Tyler Alexander was brilliant on the mound, throwing six shutout innings. He allowed three hits and struck out four. The freshman left-hander retired 18 of the 21 batters he faced. Brandon Finnegan twirled five innings for TCU. He allowed a pair of runs on three hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Fans also got a glimpse of three other Varsity pitchers. Brian Trieglaff and Riley Ferrell joined forces with the Alumni, while Jordan Kipper tossed an inning for the Varsity squad.

The Varsity got the scoring started in the third inning after Kyle Bacak led off the frame with a double to left. A sacrifice bunt from Cody Jones had Bacak standing on third and he scored just ahead of the tag on a fly ball off the bat of Boomer White.

The Varsity squad broke the game open in the fourth inning as it took advantage of six walks, three wild pitches and a passed ball to push across three runs. Jerrick Suiter, Keaton Jones and Garret Crain walked to load the bases with one out. Two wild pitches and a passed ball cleared the bases and gave the Varsity a 4-0 lead.

The Varsity struck again in the bottom of the eighth inning as it took advantage of a lead-off walk to Keaton Jones. Crain reached on an infield single and both runners moved up on a ground ball off the bat of Dylan Delso. Cody Jones drove in the run for a 5-0 lead.

Two more runs crossed the plate in the ninth inning to push the lead to 7-0. Jeremie Fagnan reached on a lead-off error and moved to second on a base hit by Dylan Fitzgerald. With one out and runners on the corners, an errant pick-off throw allowed Fagnan to score. Keaton Jones followed with an RBI double to cap the scoring.

The Alumni cracked the scoreboard in the 10th inning on a two-out double from Jantzen Witte. Al Ralston reached on a one-out single and stole second. Matt Vern drew a one-out walk and both runners scored on Witte's double.

In the top of the 12th, the Alumni pushed across another run to make it a 7-3 game. Kyle Von Tungeln reached on a one-out infield single. He moved to second on a walk to Matt Curry and scored on a Joe Weik double.

The Varsity pushed across four runs in the bottom of the 12th to account for the final score. Cron drew a bases-loaded walk and Fagnan was hit by a pitch to drive in the first two runs of the inning. Dylan Fitzgerald capped the scoring with a two-run double.

On the mound, the Alumni put up a stout group of arms. Kyle Winkler started and was followed by Tyler Lockwood, Stefan Crichton, Andrew Mitchell, Greg Holle, Kevin Allen, Trevor Seidenberger, Justin Scharf and Dillon Farish.

Jerome Pena tallied two hits for the Alumni. Josh Elander, Curry, Von Tungeln, Witte, Weik and Ralston notched the other hits.

The 2013 regular season gets underway Friday, Feb. 14 when the No. 19 TCU Horned Frogs host Jacksonville for a three-game series. First pitch at Lupton Stadium is slated for 6:30 p.m.
