HOUSTON - One day after drubbing No. 9 Texas 8-1, TCU baseball picked up another win over a ranked team, downing No. 16 Baylor 6-5 in the Horned Frogs' finale of the Astros College Classic at Enron Field.

For the second day in a row, TCU got on the scoreboard in the first, posting an unearned run to grab an early 1-0 lead. Left fielder Terry Trofholz (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior/Creighton) opened the game with a double to left center field. He advanced to third when clean-up hitter Walter Olmstead (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur) hit a hot shot which Baylor third baseman Michael Griffin misplayed for the inning-extending error. One batter later, Horned Frog third baseman Mike Settle (Fort Worth, Texas/Country Day) roped a single to center, scoring Trofholz.

Baylor evened it up in the bottom of the second on catcher Chris Ford's RBI single, which bounced just out of Settle's reach at third. The Frogs avoided more damage in the frame by turning its second-straight inning-ending double play.

The Bears took the lead an inning later on an RBI single off the bat of shortstop Trey Webb. However, for the third inning in a row TCU averted danger by stranding a Baylor runner in scoring position.

TCU reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth, notching three runs on three hits. Trofholz beat out an infield single to get the rally started. After he stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch, Olmstead drove in the run on a fielder's choice. Two batters later, designated hitter Jonathan Marshall (Marshall, Texas/Marshall/McLennan J.C.) drove a double into left center field, scoring both Olmstead and Settle, to give the Frogs a 4-2 lead.

The Horned Frogs tacked on another run in the seventh as right fielder Jake Duncan (Marshall, Texas/Marshall/U. of Texas) reached on an infield single, stole second and third, and came home on a throwing error by Webb, extending TCU's lead to 5-2.

After Baylor made it 5-3 with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, the Frogs put the game away with Will Lewis' (Texarkana, Ark./Texarkana/Seminole J.C.) insurance run in the ninth.

Baylor made it interesting in the ninth as Michael Griffin hit a two-run homer to cut the TCU lead to 6-5. However, Chris Osentowski (Garland, Texas/Richardson Berkner) came into close the door, earning his first save of the season.

Four Horned Frog pitchers combined to scatter 10 hits. Clint Mokry (Taylor, Texas/Taylor) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to notch his first career win.

TCU opens the season 2-1, while Baylor drops to 0-3. The Frogs will be back in action Tues., Feb. 12 at UT-Arlington. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

TCU turned an unconventional 5-3-5 double play to end the Baylor first inning. With a runner on first, Baylor's Chris Durbin hit a grounder to Settle, who threw to first to put away Durbin. Olmstead then fired back to Settle to nail the runner who was trying to advance to third ... the win snapped the Horned Frogs' four-game losing streak to the Bears, dating back to a 12-5 Frog win in the last Southwest Conference Tournament on May 15, 1996 ... TCU's first opponent at the Astros College Classic was No. 26 Texas Tech.
