Feb. 13, 2005
Fort Worth, Texas - The No. 22 TCU Horned Frogs completed the sweep of the Utah Utes (0-6) with a 14-7 win in game three of the series. TCU scored 11 runs in the final three innings to break the game open. The Frogs got timely hitting in the game, scoring 14 runs on 11 hits in the game. They took advantage of four Utah errors to score five unearned runs in the contest. Stuart Musslewhite connected for the Frogs first home run of the season in the third and Chad Huffman hit one in the seventh.
The Utes had the first opportunity to score as they had the bases loaded with one out, but Frog starter, Tim McGough, settled in and got a shallow fly ball off the bat of Jay Brossman and struck out Doug Beck on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning.
The Frogs got on the board on Musslewhite's long ball over the left field fence to take a 1-0 lead after three. TCU pushed across another run in the fourth to make it 2-0. Shelby Ford led off the inning with a double, stole third and scored on a Keith Conlon sacrifice fly.
Utah tied the game in the fifth as they scored two runs on four hits off of reliever Tyler Kersten (1-0). Musslewhite made an outstanding defensive play to start a 6-4-3 double play and Kersten got a fly out to end the inning with the scored tied at two.
TCU regained the lead in the fifth inning on another manufactured run. Bo Cogbill led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on Kyle Dahlberg's sac bunt and scored on a Musslewhite ground out to take a 3-2 lead.
The Utes were threatening in the sixth before Brad Furnish came on in relief. With just four pitches, Furnish retired the side. He induced a fielder's choice and made great catch on a popped out bunt in which he turned the inning-ending double play to keep the Frogs in the lead, 3-2
The Frogs broke the game open in the next two innings, scoring 11 times on just six hits. Austin Adams highlighted the six run outburst in the sixth inning with a two-run single. Matt Carpented delivered his second two-run single of the season in the eighth and scored on Huffman's first home run of the season.
