FORT WORTH - The UT Arlington Mavericks used a six-run third inning to propel themselves to a 10-2 win over No. 12 TCU Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The loss for the Horned Frogs snapped their four game winning streak.

"There's nothing positive for TCU to take out of this game," said head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "We all knew that UTA had a much better team than its record indicated. They had a really good season last year with a lot of veteran players back and they got very healthy tonight."

TCU had a chance out of the gates to get on the board first after Cody Jones led off the inning with a base hit and was standing on third with one out. Maverick starter Brad Vachon struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning unscathed.

The Maverick offense came to life with two outs in the third as they struck for six runs on five hits. Derek Miller started the rally with a seeing-eye single. Three straight doubles followed, putting the Mavericks up 3-0. After a walk, Greg McCall double UTA's lead with a three-run home run to center.

"They did a good job taking advantage of the conditions tonight and their pitcher did a heck of job keeping the ball down and away from us," said Schlossnagle. "He's their opening day starter and he's had two rough starts. I would expect him to build on this outing and have a great year."

The Frogs got a run back in the bottom of the frame after Cody Jones worked a one-out walk. Dylan Fitzgerald followed with a double to cut the deficit to five, 6-1.

An error in the fourth proved costly as the Mavericks took advantage of the miscue to push across their seventh run of the game. With two on and one out, Darien McLemore grounded out to make it a 7-1 ballgame.

TCU had its chances in the sixth and seventh innings to cut into the lead as it had a pair of runners on in both frames. Cron and Odell singled with two outs in the sixth, but were stranded.

In the seventh, Connor Castellano led off with a double and was standing on third with one out after a Jeremie Fagnan pinch hit single. Vachon got a shallow fly ball for the second out before giving way to Chase Weaver for the final out of the frame.

The Mavericks batted around in the eighth and added three more runs, opening up a commanding 10-1 lead. An error and two bases loaded walks drove in the UTA runs.

TCU pushed across its final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Boomer White led off the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a single from Cron. Jerrick Suiter drove a double down the left field line to drive in White.

Jordan Kipper (1-1) was touched for seven runs (six earned) in four innings of work. He gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out three. Alex Young (2 innings), Brian Howard (1 inning), Travis Evans (1/3 of an inning), Brian Trieglaff (2/3 of an inning) and Riley Ferrell (1 inning) worked the final five innings out of the bullpen.

TCU falls to 6-2 overall. The Horned Frogs will be back in action Friday as they begin play in their second straight tournament. TCU will take part in the Houston College Classic hosted by the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. Friday's game will see the Horned Frogs face off against Sam Houston State at 3:35 p.m. The game will be televised in the Houston area on CSN Houston.
