FORT WORTH - Another strong outing from Preston Morrison and a two-out base hit from Boomer White helped TCU secure a 2-1 win over Pacific Friday night.

As is usually the case when Morrison (2-1) is pitching, the defense needed to be sharp to help the Horned Frogs get the victory. Each time the Tigers attempted to mount a rally, the defense was there to snuff it out, starting in the first inning.

Pacific was gifted a two-out base runner on an error. The runner was standing on third after a failed pick off attempt. Morrison got Erik Lockwood to hit a grounder to short. Keaton Jones fielded the ball deep in the hole and made the long throw across the diamond to end the inning.

TCU grabbed the momentum and turned it into an early lead in the bottom of the first. Cody Jones worked a lead-off walk, but was erased on a fielder's choice. Witte followed with a one-out single and Dylan Fitzgerald was plunked with two outs to load the bases. Jerrick Suiter bounced one up the middle for a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers made a valiant effort to tie the game in the top of the second as they got a pair of two out hits. With both runners standing in scoring position, Fitzgerald made a strong catch in shallow left field on a sinking line drive to end the inning.

Through each of the first four innings, Morrison allowed two-out base runners and the Tigers eventually turned it into a run in the fourth inning. Gio Brusa doubled with two outs and moved to third on a passed ball. Taylor Murphy reached on an infield single to tie the game at one.

The pitchers took over in the middle innings and the game cruised to the seventh with the score tied at one.

Keaton Jones gave the Frogs life in the bottom of the seventh as he singled to lead off the inning. Brett Johnson moved him to second with a sacrifice. Jones was standing on third with two outs when White stepped to the plate. The freshman battled to a full count and punched one up the middle for a 2-1 lead.

Morrison left the game after eight strong innings. He allowed just one unearned run on seven hits. The righty didn't walk anyone and fanned one. Andrew Mitchell took over in the ninth and set the side down in order for his first save of the season.

TCU improves to 4-8 overall. The Frogs and the Tigers will hit the field for game two on Saturday afternoon. Due to projected weather forecasts, the game has been moved up an hour. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Lupton Stadium. Brandon Finnegan will toe the rubber for the Horned Frogs.
