FORT WORTH - A dominating pitching performance from Preston Morrison and a three-run first inning helped TCU cruise to an 8-1 victory over Kansas Friday night. The win is TCU's first in the Big 12. Five Horned Frogs tallied two or more hits.

Morrison (3-1) was outstanding in his second straight series-opening start. The sophomore allowed just one run on four hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched. He walked just one and fanned five. After back-to-back singles to open the second inning, Morrison retired the next 13 batters he faced before a one-out infield single in the sixth.

The offense staked Morrison to an early 3-0 lead in the first as they put together a two-out rally. Jantzen Witte got things rolling as he worked a two-out walk. Kevin Cron followed with a single and Dylan Fitzgerald gave the Frogs a 1-0 lead with a double down the left field line. Keaton Jones reached on an error to make it a 2-0 contest and Derek Odell drove a single through the left side to drive in Fitzgerald.

A lead-off single from Alex DeLeon in the second led to Kansas' only run of the game. He moved to third on a base hit by Michael Suiter and scored on a ground out off the bat of Jacob Boylan.

The Frogs batted around in the fourth inning as they opened up a 7-1 lead. Kyle Bacak got the inning started with a single and moved to second on a Cody Jones sacrifice. Six straight Frogs reached base before the next out was recorded. Boomer White singled for a 4-1 lead. After a double by Witte, Cron lined an RBI single up the middle. Two runs scored on the hit as the center fielder failed to field the ball cleanly allowing Witte to score from second. Derek Odell hit a towering fly ball that fell in safely in center to cap the scoring in the inning.

TCU added to its lead in the sixth inning, taking advantage of a lead-off double by Witte. Fitzgerald singled with one out to put runners on the corners and Witte scored easily on a ground ball to short off the bat of Keaton Jones for an 8-1 lead.

The Jayhawks tried to inch closer in the eighth inning as a two-out error kept the inning alive. Justin Protacio followed with a double down the left field line and Jordan Dreiling worked a walk to load the bases. Travis Evans battled out of the jam as he got DeLeon to pop out to end the inning.

Evan again had to work out of a mini jam in the ninth to close out the game. Suiter doubled to open the inning, but Evans struck out the next two batters before a running catch in foul territory by Boomer White ended the game.

TCU improves to 8-9 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 play. Game two of the series is set for Saturday night at Lupton Stadium. Game time is 6:30 p.m. Trevor Seidenberger will start for the Frogs and face the Jayhawks' Wes Benjamin.
