FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 28 TCU Horned Frogs maintained its undefeated mark at Lupton Stadium with a convincing 10-2 win over Air Force Saturday afternoon. The Frogs are now 10-0 at home this season and have won 14 straight home games dating back to last season. Bryan Kervin led the offensive charge with three hits. Every starter hit safely as TCU pounded out 13 hits in the contest.
TCU struck first in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of a lead-off walk to Austin Adams. Falcons' starter Mitch Brown picked up two quick outs, but Matt Vern unloaded on a Brown offering, driving it to the deepest part of the park for a two-out triple that scored Adams from first.
In the fourth, the Falcons battled back to tie the game at one. Chay Derbigny was hit by a Chance Corgan offering and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. A two-out single by Ben Ausbun got the Falcons on the board for the first time in the series.
The tie didn't last long as TCU put up a three-spot in the bottom half of the inning. Keith Conlon reached on a lead-off bunt single and moved to third on an Adams base hit up the middle. Andrew Walker drilled a 3-2 pitch to the gap in left center plating both runs. Corey Steglich came through with a two-out single to right field to drive home Walker with the Frogs fourth run of the game.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the Frog lead to 6-1. Kervin opened the inning with a double down the left field line and Steven Trout traded places with him, driving the ball down the right field line. After a passed ball moved Trout to third, Conlon drove him in with a sacrifice fly to right.
Another lead-off double came around to score in the sixth after the Falcons went to the bullpen. Vern collected his second double of the season and scored on a Kervin base knock.
The Frogs struck again in the eighth inning, scoring three runs on two hits, helped along by two hit-by-pitches and a walk. Vern worked a walk to lead off the inning and moved to third on a Teddy Kreder base hit. Ben Carruthers extended his hit streak to three games with an infield single that scored Vern. Trout took a pitch off the back to load the bases and two runs scored on a dropped ball in the outfield.
Chance Corgan turned in a solid six inning performance. He allowed one run on three hits, walked one and struck out seven. Chase Perry tossed two innings, giving up a run on two hits. Cody Dunbar closed out the game, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Frogs improve to 14-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play. TCU will go for its third series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. Chris Johnson will take the mound for TCU.
Keith Conlon and Austin Adams extended their hit streaks to nine games.
