Final Stats

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The TCU Horned Frogs rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning, but Brandon Bayardi's second home run of the game allowed UNLV to walk-off with the 5-4 victory Friday night. Aaron Schultz was on base all four times in the game and stole three bases.

Kyle Winkler (4-1) tossed his first complete game of the season, but was the tough-luck losing pitcher. He allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits. The junior struck out 11 and issued one intentional walk.

Winkler pitched out of a big jam in the ninth to keep the deficit at one, giving the Frogs the chance to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. An error with one out turned into a bases loaded situation as Hunter Beaty followed with a double forcing Winkler to intentionally walk Trevor Kirk. Winkler got a big strikeout for the second out and then got Rance Roundy to ground out to end the inning.

TCU took advantage of a pair of errors by the shortstop to tie the game at four. Schultz reached on the one-out miscue and stole second with two outs. Joe Weik hit a slow roller that the shortstop couldn't handle and Schultz raced around to tie the game at four.

It was not to be as Bayardi drilled a 2-2 offering from Winkler over the left field fence for the walk-off win.

Rivera got the first inning rolling as he unloaded on a Tanner Peters' offering, sending it sailing over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead. Jantzen Witte followed with a double and moved to third on a base hit off the bat of Taylor Featherston. Jason Coats bounced into a fielder's choice, allowing Witte to score to give the Frogs a 2-0 lead.

After going down in order in each of the first three innings, the Rebel bats came to life in the fourth. Beaty doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a ground out. A wild pitch cut the Frog lead in half. With two outs, Roundy singled to center and scored on a long home run off the bat of Bayardi as UNLV took a 3-2 lead.

The Rebels tacked on an unearned run in the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Ryan Scott led off the inning with a base hit and moved all the way to third on an errant pick-off throw. Cash Thomas lined a single right at the drawn-in infield that plated the run. Winkler got out of the jam, getting Beaty to ground into the inning-ending double play.

TCU took advantage of a two-out error in the eighth to draw a run closer, 4-3. Witte reached on the miscue and moved to second on a wild pitch. Featherston lined a double to left field that plated Witte with the Frogs' third run of the game.

TCU falls to 10-7 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Game two of the series is set for Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. (CST). Matt Purke will take the mound for TCU and face the Rebels' Joe Robinson.
