TCU Falters In Late Innings
March 26, 2013
FORT WORTH - Dallas Baptist rallied from a four run deficit to hand TCU a 5-4 loss Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. Trevor Seidenberger tied his career-high with six strikeouts in the no-decision.
Seidenberger turned in a solid six inning performance in the no-decision. He allowed a pair of runs on four hits, walked one and struck out six. Stefan Crichton (1-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on two hits and a walk. Alex Young struck out four in his two innings of work.
TCU built a four run lead in the first five innings of the game, taking advantage of a trio of Patriot errors.
Dallas Baptist escaped a TCU threat in the second inning, turning an inning-ending double play with runners on first and third. The Patriots would not be able to get out of the jam in the third as TCU pushed across a pair of runs on two hits and a costly error.
Keaton Jones worked a lead-off walk and moved to second a sacrifice bunt. Cody Jones drew a walk and Boomer White lined a single off the foot of the Patriot pitcher to load the bases. Jantzen Witte dropped a single into left field and the ball got by the outfielder, allowing two runs to score.
Another unearned run crossed the plate in the fourth inning as the TCU lead grew to three. Paul Hendrix singled to lead off the inning and was safe at second on a botched attempt to start a double play. He moved to third on the errant throw and scored on a Derek Odell sacrifice fly.
Cody Jones used his legs to help the Frogs push their lead to four. After leading off the fifth with a single, he stole second. An overthrow of second base had him standing on third with nobody out. White did his job as he grounded out to the right side for a 4-0 lead.
A lead-off single and a wild throw had the Patriots in business in the sixth as Nash Knight was standing on third with nobody out. A failed pick-off attempt gave Dallas Baptist its first run of the game. A hit batter led to another Patriot run as he scored on a two-out single from Boomer Collins to make it a 4-2 game.
The Patriots completed the comeback in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits. Austin Listi doubled to lead off the inning and two wild pitches later scored to make it a 4-3 game. After a one out walk and a base hit put runners on the corners, the Frogs went to the bullpen. Justin Scharf got a ground ball, but Jaime Garrido beat the relay throw to first to drive in the tying run. Collins followed with a two-out single to give the Patriots a lead they would not relinquish.
TCU (9-15) heads back out on the road this weekend for a showdown with Texas Tech. First pitch Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m. at Dan Law Field. The contest can be seen live nationally on Fox College Sports.
